What are you currently doing and what was your career path and how CLEST influenced it?
Today, I am a PhD student in Economics at the University of Pennsylvania, with a focus on Development and Education Economics. After CLEST, I decided to attend the Economic and Social Sciences master program at Bocconi, a decision that was influenced by CLEST, a dual program that entails not only classic economics courses but also in-depth statistics classes. My master program allowed me to further study microeconometrics and program evaluation, the fundamentals of which I had already acquired at CLEST. The latter, indeed, showed me the fascinating potential of these methodologies in studying policies and social phenomena.
What suggestion would you give to someone who is currently thinking of enrolling in the CLEST course
CLEST is a great course if 1) you really like data science but you also think an economic background is important or 2) you really like economics and studying social phenomena. It is quite different from a classic economics and management path. It allows you to make bigger picture questions and it can open many different doors.
Back then, why did you choose CLEST among other economic courses?
I wanted to study economics to understand social phenomena through empirical methodologies. CLEST was the perfect path for this purpose and had a clear comparative advantage with respect to other courses. I would like to add that the course was also much smaller and it had been just created when I decided to attend it. Therefore, professors were very motivated in offering something completely new that they created from scratch, and the smaller nature of the course allowed me to have direct relationships with professors more easily.
What was your favorite part about the CLEST course?
I really liked classes, from the very first economics classes until the most advanced data mining training. There was an authentic enthusiasm in offering students something unprecedented and at the frontier of research at CLEST.

Perché ha scelto il corso CLEST?
Ho scelto il corso CLEST perchè ero interessato ad un percorso di studio in ambito economico, ma allo stesso tempo non volevo rinunciare alla possibilità di studiare materie statistiche come accade nelle triennali economiche più classiche: l'offerta formativa mi è sembrata completa e adatta all'ambito lavorativo a cui ambisco.
Come descriverebbe questo corso di laurea a parole sue?
CLEST è un percorso di studi particolare, un mix di economia, statistica e informatica. Non è il classico corso di laurea in economia, è un corso di laurea al passo con i cambiamenti che avvengono nel mondo, che guarda al futuro e forma laureati già pronti ad entrare nel mondo del lavoro con la preparazione richiesta. Allo stesso modo, è una laurea che permette a chi vuole proseguire nei propri studi di poter scegliere tra molte lauree magistrali, quali statistica e finanza, ma anche matematica e informatica.
Quali corsi, seminari o laboratori le sono piaciuti di più e perché?
Avendo scelto il percorso statistico, personalmente ho trovato più interessanti le materie legate a questo ambito, senza nulla togliere a quelle di carattere più economico. Per quanto riguarda i laboratori e i seminari, ho apprezzato particolarmente il laboratorio di R (fondamentale in questo corso di laurea) e il seminario sulla razionalità e la decisione (diverso dagli altri seminari presenti). Degna di nota anche la possibilità di poter scegliere successivamente quale percorso seguire al terzo anno (economico oppure statistico), dopo aver seguito i primi due anni e senza dover scegliere solo sulla base delle proprie sensazioni.
Ci parli di lei, cosa fa attualmente e qual è il suo piani dopo la laurea?
Sono alla fine del mio percorso CLEST, sto scrivendo l'elaborato finale e preparando gli ultimi esami. L'anno prossimo mi piacerebbe proseguire i miei studi in statistica sempre qui a Torino con il corso di laurea magistrale SEED (metodi statistici ed economici per le previsioni).
