Obiettivi formativi

Basically, we will adress the major topics regarding ETHICS IN THE CONTEMPORARY ECONOMIC SISTEMS, where FINANCE plays an outstanding and often critical role, on one side, and the request for WELFARE AND SUSTAINABLE GROWTH is increasing, on the other side.

I hope to give students some basic concepts and different approaches to takle a few major questions regarding our lives, both on the individual and on the collective level

• Le declinazioni del concetto di etica e di benessere
• L’etica e i sistemi valoriali a sostegno della scelte economiche: da Max Weber ad Amartya Sen fino a Michael Sandel
• Conoscenza scientifica e conoscenza morale: l’economia come disciplina sociale, interesse individuale e benessere collettivo, il profitto come mezzo e come fine
• La finanza e le buone regole: dalla regolamentazione rule based alla vigilanza principle based, il rischio reputazionale e la convenienza della buona condotta
• Ruolo dello Stato nell’economia: welfare e well being, sistemi previdenziali ed assistenziali ed equità intergenerazionale
• Economia dello sviluppo e lotta alla povertà: il modello della capacità e dei diritti, l’inclusione sociale
• Responsabilità sociale di impresa: CSR e bilanci sociali, benessere organizzativo e engagement manageriale, decrescita – forme di seduzione?
• La finanza etica: fondi etici, sostenibilità, green economy e antiriciclaggio – retorica per il consenso
• L’economia circolare
• L'etica nell'intelligenza artificiale e nella space economy

PROGRAM IN ENGLISH

Welfare Economics is the study of how different forms of economics activity and different methods of allocating scarse resources affect the well being of different individuals and communities. It focuses on questions about equity as well as efficiency. It has been argued that it was going to disappear, but some economists (Sen) hold hope and claim, on solid reasons, that welfare economics is back and “fashionable”

The theory of welfare, ethics, meritocracy and well -being from the past to the present. Kant, Weber, Rawls, Sen, Sandel. Individual well being/interest and collective welfare. The future: Inclusion, justice, capabilities, entitlements, meritocracy at stake

Practise and cases:

Ethics and Finance: principles and concerns that emerges from financial ethics and economics are deeply relevant to current issues of financial organization and help us to confront contemporary problems – duties of financial agents, managers and other administrators of financial institutions and business firms

ESG investments and criteria: environmental, social and governance drivers as a set of standards for a company’s operations that socially conscious investors use to screen potential investments and projects

Circular economy: a way to transform our throwaway economy into one where waste is eliminated, resources are circulated and nature is regenerated. And what about Artificial Intellingence and the so- called Space Economy? 

Welfare State is a state that is committed to providing basic economic security for its citizens by protecting them from market risks associated with old age, unemployment, accidents, and sickness. Contemporary research examines welfare state restructuring as economic globalization, and changes in the family and gender roles have placed new pressures on welfare states.

Frontal lessons - 6 lessons will be provide

Attendance is compulsory for at least 5 out of 6 lessons.

Presenza obbligatoria per almeno 5 incontri su 6.

Depending on the class, it will be possible to have some lively interaction activities during the lessons, based on some readings required. 

Written short essays on some subjects might be required too.

In dipendenza del numero di studenti, sono previste attività di discussione in classe a gruppi e a casa, con consegna di alcuni documenti da leggere e commentare

Attività di supporto

Articles, papers and practical cases will be offered and discussed during classes.

Saranno offerti articoli, casi pratici e anche testimonianze dirette per la discussione in classe. 

Other readings suggested and given  during the lessons.

Durante il corso saranno suggeriti altri testi e letture integrative, che saranno trasmesse via mail o inserito su Moodle.
