Obiettivi formativi
Course objectives
The objective of the course is to introduce students to the current issues in energy economics. Through course lectures, class projects and assignments, the students will learn about contemporary issues in energy economics. Some of the topics that students will learn about include: European energy policy, regulation of energy sectors, electricity, gas, heat and renewable energy markets, capital budgeting in regulated and liberalized markets. After successful completion of the course, the students will be capable to critically assess developments in the energy sector. The course will also prove beneficial to those students planning to pursue a career in energy-related positions.

Expected learning outcomes
After completing the course, the students will have acquired the following:
- Understanding of the workings of energy markets in general and principles by which European energy policy is reflected in national energy policies.
- Verbal communication and presentation skills: through presenting case studies and projects, the students will improve their communication and presentation skills crucial in today's business world.

Teaching methods
Teaching methods will include class lectures, computer exercises, and projects. Students who accumulate enough points during the semester will be considered ATTENDING. Those students who fail to accumulate enough points will be considered NON-ATTENDING.

Evaluation method
ATTENDING students:
Final class evaluation will be based upon: final exam, project and its presentations and class participation (depending on the number of students), with weights as per the following table.

To be considered ATTENDING, the students must achieve at least 50% of the final grade. Students failing to do so will be considered NON-ATTENDING and will lose all the points accumulated during the semester. NON-ATTENDING students will be evaluated solely based on a comprehensive exam.

NON-ATTENDING students will have a written exam on the Moodle platform+webex. The exam will consist in 3-4 open questions on the programs. Slides are available in Moodle (several papers are cited in the slides), moreover the reading of the following book is strongly suggested: Energy Economics: Concepts, Issues, Markets and Governance, by Bhattacharyya, Subhes C.
ATTENDING: the final exam will be an oral exam on the program done during the semester.
