Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM) is looking for qualified and motivated researchers to fill 3 positions for the new programme Labour in the Low-Carbon Transition (LILT). The candidates will conduct empirical and theoretical analyses on the following topics: i. the labour market impacts of climate policies and green deal plans across workers with different set of skills; ii. study structural transformations associated with the low-carbon transition including for innovation, productivity, skill demand and emission dynamics; iii. assess the distributional effects of climate policies more broadly and their repercussions on political acceptability and voting patterns; iv. modeling the reallocation costs associated with the low-carbon transition. Obviously, the list of topics is not exhaustive and potential candidates are encouraged to make proposals to broaden the scope of the programme, within the range of its main objectives (see HERE).

The LiLT research programme will start its activities in September 2022. Several work arrangements are possible including part- and full-time contracts. The duration of the contract will vary up to a maximum of 18 months, but there is the possibility to renew it.

The following research competences and topics are foreseen in the initial phase:

  1. Microeconometrics;
  2. Working with big datasets;
  3. Text analysis;
  4. Simulation techniques;
  5. Environmental and climate change economics;
  6. Labour, international and innovation economics;
  7. Political economy.

Candidates are not expected to cover the whole set of competences and topics, but experiences in more than one of them will be considered as a plus.

FEEM is a leading research institute on sustainable development and offers an invaluable research environment and an interdisciplinary workplace, with diverse skills and international staff. FEEM has strong ties with a worldwide network of research institutions engaged in economic research and provides excellent opportunities to focus on research and disseminate results in international conferences and stakeholders’ events.

The selected applicants will be based in Milan (Italy) and will primarily focus on research projects. The candidates will also be asked to contribute to internal activities including conferences and workshops. As part of his/her duties, the candidate will have to finalize the research efforts in scientific articles. The results of the scientific articles may then be used for dissemination in policy briefs or blog posts.

The job assignment is expected to begin in September. Gross salary is competitive and will be based on qualification and experience.

Requirements
A background with solid quantitative skills, as demonstrated by the achievement of at least a M.Sc. in a subject area related to the job description is compulsory. A Ph.D. degree is not compulsory, but it is highly valued.

The ideal candidate:

  • is proficient in the microeconometric techniques and panel data;
  • is familiar with at least one of the topics of the project;
  • is able to work independently with large datasets;
  • is familiar with text analysis and/or machine learning techniques;
  • is able to work independently on theoretical models, particularly on simulation and quantitative models;
  • has sufficient command of (at least one) standard statistical packages, like R, stata and Matlab; • can operate in an international context with English as a working language;
  • is highly committed to develop a research project.
